In-House Turbo Remanufacturing

We are Australia’s most experienced in-house turbo remanufacturer. Every unit is carefully stripped, inspected, and rebuilt to strict OEM specifications.

  • High-speed balancing
  • Flow testing and quality checks
  • Genuine OEM parts only
  • Built and signed off by a qualified technician

Because our remanufactured turbos are hand-assembled (not mass-produced), each unit receives the attention to detail needed to deliver performance and reliability equal to, or better than an equivalent new turbocharger.

Genuine Authorised Distributors

We proudly partner with the world’s leading turbocharger brands:

  • Garrett – Master Distributor for Western Australia
  • Mitsubishi Turbochargers – Authorised Distributor
  • Also servicing and supplying: Holset (Cummins), BorgWarner (KKK, Schwitzer), IHI, Toyota, and more

We also carry genuine Garrett upgrade turbos suitable for performance applications. For full kits and tuning services, visit our Diesel Performance page.

FAQs

A turbocharger boosts your engine's performance by using the exhaust gases that would otherwise go to waste. These gases spin a turbine, which compresses incoming air and forces it into the engine’s intake manifold. This process increases the air-to-fuel ratio, delivering more power, improved fuel efficiency, and lower emissions.

Turbo lag is the slight delay between when you press the accelerator and when the turbo starts to deliver boost. This happens because the turbo relies on exhaust gases to spool up and generate pressure, which takes a moment, especially at lower engine RPMs. Modern turbo systems and tuning options can significantly reduce lag.

A wastegate regulates turbocharger boost pressure. Once boost pressure reaches a set limit, the wastegate opens to divert excess exhaust gases away from the turbocharger turbine. This prevents the turbo from producing more boost than the engine can safely handle, protecting the engine and maintaining consistent performance.

Heavy-duty turbochargers are built to withstand continuous high-load operation, extreme heat, and long duty cycles. They tend to use more robust materials and generally have larger housings. Their design prioritises durability, thermal resistance, and serviceability over rapid spool time.

Heavy diesel engines often operate in harsh environments (dust, heat, long hours), putting sustained stress on the turbo system. A failed turbo in a mining truck or agricultural harvester can mean thousands of dollars in lost productivity per day. Regular inspections, proper oil management, and early diagnosis of symptoms like smoke, lag, or noise are vital to avoid major failures.

Common signs include:

  • Reduced boost pressure or engine power
  • Increased exhaust smoke (especially black or blue)
  • Whining or grinding noises
  • Excessive oil consumption
  • Unusual exhaust temperatures

These symptoms typically signal issues with turbine wear, seal failure, or compressor imbalance.

Yes, many heavy-duty turbochargers can be fully remanufactured, especially when the housing is structurally intact.

Dust ingestion is one of the leading causes of turbo failure. Contaminants erode the compressor blades and imbalance the shaft. This not only reduces efficiency but can also cause catastrophic failure. Regular inspection and replacement of engine oil and air filters, as well as checking for air leaks, is essential for maintaining turbo longevity.

Over-speeding occurs when a turbo spins beyond its designed maximum RPM, often due to:

  • Boost leaks downstream, causing the turbo to work harder
  • Faulty or tampered wastegate/actuator or VNT controller
  • Incorrect tuning or mismatched components
  • Blocked air filter

In heavy vehicles, over-speeding can cause turbine failure, shaft breakage, or compressor wheel bursts.

Turbochargers can spin at over 100,000 RPM and operate at temperatures above 600°C. They rely entirely on clean, pressurised oil to lubricate and cool the bearing system. Inadequate oil flow, dirty oil, or delayed oil pressure at startup (especially after a filter change) can cause rapid wear or immediate failure.

Yes. Every remanufactured turbo at United Fuel Injection is fully balanced on high-speed balancing machines to ensure it meets or exceeds OEM specs. This is critical for heavy diesel applications, where reliability and performance under continuous load are essential.

Yes. United Fuel Injection maintains a large inventory of fully rebuilt exchange turbochargers for quick turnaround. If we don’t have your model in stock, we can often rebuild yours within a short timeframe. This helps reduce downtime and keeps critical equipment operating.

You can absolutely send your turbo to us for professional diagnosis. We inspect and test your unit to determine whether it’s a candidate for repair or needs replacement. Many issues can be resolved without requiring a full new turbo.
